Play It Forward accepts gently used instruments donated by the community. Because our goal is to gift instruments that can be used by a student, teacher, or school for up to 5 years, playing a minimum of 2 hours per day, we do not accept pianos with the following defects:

  • The felt hammer tips are more than very slightly grooved or smooth. (Hammers with grooves of 1/16″ or more are usually very bright and harsh in tone.)
  • Pianos older than 1955 unless they have been fully refurbished and have documentation showing what work was performed.
  • Chipped keys
  • Sticking keys
  • Broken strings
  • Sluggish action
  • Loose pins
  • Missing music rack

*Digital pianos and keyboards do not receive evaluations or appraisals.

After you fill out the intake form 1 of 3 things will happen:

  1. You will receive a piano pick up form.
  2. Your piano will be evaluated by a technician.
  3. You will receive our resource letter to help you find another home for your piano.

We look forward to taking the next steps towards partnering with you to find your piano’s next home.

Thank you for Playing it Forward!

Play It Forward accepts gently used instruments for children who desire to study an instrument but lack the resources to purchase an instrument. Because our goal is to gift instruments that can be used by a student for up to 5 years, practicing 2 hours per day we do not accept instruments with the following flaws:

*sticking keys
*missing pads
*rust
*cracked wood

After donors have checked their instruments for viability, they are required to fill out our intake form. Donors will be contacted with the option to drop off their instrument at our location or opt to have their instrument picked up.

We look forward to taking the next steps towards getting your instrument into the home of a student.
